Welcome to Shireland Collegiate Academy 2011-2012

Having opened as an Academy in September 2007, we are extremely proud of the progress everyone has made in the previous years. Our commitment to raising standards for our students whilst also serving our families and wider community will always be our main focus. There has been education on our campus for over a hundred years and this blend of tradition with innovation is what makes Shireland Collegiate Academy significantly different.

Transition to secondary education can be a worrying time for families and Y6 pupils but need not be. Our Y7 organisation and delivery is designed not only to be supportive of the emotional and social needs of students, but also to build on their Y6 achievements in a more individual and focused manner. Consequently, Y7 students will spend 70% of their week with a team of base teachers. These teachers will plan and deliver this part of the children’s curriculum; the remaining 30% will be delivered by subject specialists. Ultimately, as our building programme progresses they will also have their own Y7 base. These two fundamental changes will not only make transition more comfortable it will also enable students to make much better progress through Y7 and subsequently the rest of their secondary experience.

Working together as learners, educators and families is one of the keys to educational success and to making a difference for all of our children. We look forward to your child becoming part of our Academy community, becoming involved in the opportunities, achieving academically at the highest levels and progressing to future successes.

We have achieved this by working closely with families and our community. Our challenge now is to raise the bar of achievement higher still. We have high levels of expectation for our students and all the Academy staff have a determination that children will succeed. We will continue to rely upon the support of parents and carers to ensure that every child does their very best whilst at Shireland Collegiate Academy.
